VolunTours are unique service learning travel experiences that combine responsible tourism and change making actions, fully organized and implemented by NGOs working on the field.
These new format of international mobilities can be defined as a mixture of cultural awareness trips and volunteering, whose purpose is to offer a quality learning experience to tourists through social interaction with local communities and stakeholders, and to inspire an active participation and advocacy in the communities according to a different topic for each Asian country involved.
While directly supporting community development and sustainability, VolunTours promote a fresh model of responsible tourism and an alternative way of travelling that values the know-how of the partners engaged, creates a sustainable entrepreneurial concept based on non-formal education principles and encourage particular volunteering experiences with change making goals.
In few words, the main goal of VolunTour projects is to empower local and international NGOS in the management of groups of “volunt-tourists”, following an educational path and providing an opportunity to develop an economically sustainable model to impact local societies through responsible volunteerism.
VolunTours will involve between 6 and 10 foreign tourists accompanied by local people and 2 European young people who are doing 5 months volunteering there. The tour will last 10 days and will be focused on a specific change-making topics, which are in this edition: waste management in Nepal, industrialisation and slums in India and beauty, smartness, richness in Cambodia.
During the VolunTour journey, history, culture, nature and traditions meet the inspiration of your voluntary efforts in serving local people and promoting social change. You will meet local NGOs, experts, public institutions and local population to perform volunteering activities, meetings, debates and visits. VolunTours may thus represent the compound of your favourite passions and interests, and they act as a springboard for social reflection and sustainable development actions.
Voluntours are not:
- touristic journeys organized by a travel agency;
- adventurous lonely backpack trips abroad;
- work camps;
- study trips;
- international volunteering experiences;
- charity missions.
